About This Item
New York / London: Harper & Brothers, 1900. Volume 5 only (of 13) in the Biographical Edition of Thackeray's works, first published in 1898; the scarce jacket is dated 1899. Hardcover, full blue-green cloth, gilt titling, navy decoration, top edge gilt. Light wear to book, some waterstains, mostly to the top edge of the first few pages & lower rear fore-corner. Some sections unopened - that is, the original folds at the fore-edge remain, as the binder did not trim these edges, so these pages would need to be carefully separated with a dull knife or letter-opener to be read. Jacket stained, chipped, & torn, internally mended with archival tape. Text clean; xliii, [3], 772 pages, illustrations by the author; engraved frontispiece portrait by Walker & Boutall, after a drawing by D. Maclise, circa 1840.. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair. Illus. by Author. Octavo.
