About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1944. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. The interior of the book is crisp and clean. There is a former owner's signature on the front free end paper, but no other marks or wear. The black covers are also in very good condition, with light wear at tips and corners and one small white mark on the front cover. The dust jacket is in Good condition, with edgewear, shallow chipping at the top and bottom of the spine, several old taped repairs, and a faded spine. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. Synopsis: "Ace detective Humphrey Campbell had been drafted into the army and was closing his office when beautiful June Foster and her sister-in-law arrived asking for help. Johnny Foster a soldier on leave had hitched a ride and gone home with the kind stranger who picked him up. Johnny drank too much that night, and when he woke up the next morning, the man was dead, and police were on hand to charge and arrest Johnny. The clock was ticking and Campbell only had a few days to clear Johnny.
