A chance to own a piece history. This is a first edition of Ansel Adams' famous "Sierra Nevada – the John Muir Trail." The hardcover is cloth, with some discoloration towards the edges. The first number of endpapers have some slight water soiling, but the remainder of the book is in very good condition, especially considering it is 84 years old! I studied with Ansel Adams at Yosemite in 1958, and received a phone call from his wife Virginia a few months later, explaining the book was for sale, so I purchased it when it was only 20 years old (and I was 30)! I protected the book with clear acetate for over 60 years, mostly in a dresser drawer. There is some tan discoloration to the page edges because of its age. This was Adams' first major work, and includes 50 of his tipped-in photographs printed in half-tone by Lakeside Press of Chicago. The Lakeside images are in very good+ condition, with the exception of Image XIII, "Detail, Devil's Postpile," which has a few crinckles, as can be seen in the photos of that page. This is a limited edition of 500 numbered and signed copies, of which this is a very early number, #44.
