Philadelphia: Thomas Desilver, 1829. Hardcover. Very Good. The Ninth Edition, Revised and Improved. viii, 184 p.; 18 cm. Modern calf with gilt-tooled spine label. Inclues index. The author, James Ross (1743-1827), was a captain in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He headed a grammar school in Carlisle, Pa., from 1780 to 1784, when he became the first faculty member of the newly founded Dickinson College. In 1792 he left Dickinson to established a school for classical learning in Chambersburg, Pa., where he wrote his popular Latin Grammar. He was professor of languages at Franklin College in Lancaster, Pa. from 18081 to 1809, when he moved to Philadelphia, where he continued to tutor students for the rest of his life. In Very Good Condition: lacking front free endpaper; closed 4-cm. tear from fore-edge of pp. 21-22; occasional soiling; light foxing; occasional marginal pencil mark; otherwise, clean and tight.
