Philadelphia: Winner & Shuster, 110 North Eighth St, 1855. Unbound. Very Good. First edition. Folio. 5pp., with an illustrated front cover engraved by R.M. Gaw. Disbound, partial tear to the last page, else very good. The scarce first edition crediting Richard Milburn, an African-American street singer and composer, on the cover with the music. The most popular of Septimus Winner's folk song ballads, Abraham Lincoln once described it "as sincere as the laughter of a little girl at play." Milburn's melody was used by Louis Prima and Keely Smith for their 1956 version of the song, and is also served as a comic theme in *The Three Stooges*.
