Rider Haggard. The first edition, first issue. This is the first edition in book form of this work, following its serialisation in 'The Graphic' magazine, and with all first issue points present: page 59, line 22 "geneleman" for gentleman; page 126, line 26 "had" for have; page 258 line 37 "it" instead of if; page 269 line 38 "godness me" instead of goodness. Illustrated with two chromolithograph frontispiece.'She' was a sensationally popular adventure novel by H. Rider Haggard, so extraordinarily popular after it's first publication in 1887 that the work has never been out of print. The novel follows Horace Holly and his ward as they travel to a lost kingdom in the African interior, where they discover a mysterious queen named Ayesha. Two pages of adverts to the rear. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, with marks to the boards, including a light damp stain to the head of the front board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Small patch of loss to the fore edge of the rear board. Light rubbing to the joints. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, binding is a little strained in places. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title page. Good
