Signed/Inscribed by the author, James Fisher, on the top of the title page "for Richard Blackburn Black with very best wishes James Fisher"; Rear Admiral Richard Blackburn Black assisted Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd in explorations of Antarctica. (Extensive three page biography of Adm. Black by Arlington Cemetery is enclosed in the book). Also on the inside ffrps are extensive notes by Admiral Black noting sending of book(s) to another individual in England, and eventually to De Havitland Aircraft of Ontario, Canada. No remainder marks. Spine is tight and crisp. Boards are flat and true and the corners are square. Front text block splattered with brown dye from top text block, large spot on bottom corner.. "NEAR FINE" dust jacket is not price-clipped. This collectible, " NEAR FINE" condition first edition/first printing copy is protected with a polyester archival dust jacket cover.
