About This Item

London: John Murray, 1841. Leather. Good. 9.5" by 6.5". None. A smart copy of this collection of dispatches and general order from the Duke of Wellington. A vast selection of dispatches and general orders of Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, a British statesman, soldier, and Tory politician who was one of the leading military and political figures of nineteenth century Britain, and served twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Containing military dispatches, important letters, passages of writings, and general orders of detail and discipline. Collected by Lieutenant Colonel John Gurwood, a British career soldier who took it upon himself to edit and publish the Dispatches of the Duke of Wellington, which now form a major contribution to military history. Bound in full calf. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Minor loss to the head of the spine with cracks to the joints. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with very light scattered spotting. Further spotting to the first and last few pages. Library stamp to the title page with library bookplate to the front pastedown. Good
