Octavo, xvi, [2], 233pp. Blue cloth, title printed on spine. Stated "first edition" on title page. Light rubbing to cloth on spine. In publisher's dust jacket, retail price on front flap, fine condition. (Newcomb 209) Inscribed by the author's sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver: "Dear Mrs. Shute, Thank you for your wonderful cooperation in planning the July 4th party for retarded children. Your ideas on decorations were especially good. The children had a joyful day. Thank you. Best wishes. E. Kennedy Shriver. Paris, July 4, 1969." Eunice Kennedy Shriver (1921-2009) founded the Special Olympics in 1968. In 1953, she married Sargent Shriver, who became an active member of the Kennedy administration and Democratic nominee for vice president in 1972. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1984 for her work on behalf of children with disabilities. She passed away in 2009.
