The Secret Mark

MP3 Audio CD. The Secret Mark is an excellent story from the pen of Roy J. Snell, one of the most successful and most prolific authors of mysteries for young and girls in the history of 20th century American literature.

The protagonist of the story, the amateur detective and young genius who follows leads and assembles information to complete a story with gaps like only the best adult detectives can is Lucile Tucker, a student of Chicago University and part-time university librarian. This time she investigates a theft ? one evening she follows a girl in the library and sees the girl stealing a valuable book form one of the special collections in the library. The child then mysteriously disappears, but Lucile is already intrigued and decides to find out who the child is and why she stole the book.

While on the case, she is helped by her friend and roommate, a girl called Florence and together they follow clues and leads that take them to a crumbling old building in the outskirts of Chicago. They also come across some strange old books that have an even stranger mark on the inside of their cover. It all seems to become more and more complicated, but the two girls eventually find an explanation to all the strange events and they solve the mystery, too.

The Secret Mark is the third story in the author?s Mystery Stories for Girls series. Many of the author?s other stories feature the same young amateur detective, but he has other protagonists as well. He wrote almost 80 stories during his long literary career ? 76, to be precise -, including not only mystery stories for adults and for young readers, but eight war novels dedicated to young boys, numerous travelogues, stories about animals, network serials, dozens of adventure stories and academic essays as well.
