Boston, Massachusetts: The Bibliophile Society, 1903. Unread copy with pages unopened at the top. Condition would be FINE but for one tiny nick to the upper edge of the front cover. Square, tight, and unmarked. Pages are crisp and creamy white, with No yellowing. No foxing. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. With the handsome bookplate of prominent collector Philip Greely Brown. SECOND YEAR BOOK, 1903, THE BIBLIOPHILE SOCIETY. First Edition. "Limited to 500 copies" and "Printed for Members Only" are so stated on a handsome engraving of the Society's emblem. This copy is from the thick paper edition with pages that bulk 1 inch. The paper in this thick paper edition is watermarked: "BIBLIOPHILE SOCIETY." [Some other copies of the SECOND YEAR BOOK have pages that measue only 5/8th inch thick and are printed on paper with no watermark]. Illustrated with full-page photos and portrait (with inserted tissue-guards still present). Articles include: INADEQUATE APPRECIATION OF BOOKS by Caroline Ticknor; THE FAMOUS JOURNEY OF HORACE, with HORACE, SATIRE I, 5 -- essay, notes and translation by Clarence Cary; and MISER HELLUO LIBRORUM by Nathan Haskell Dole. Also included are lists of members; officers and council; reports of the council, treasurer, and secretary; constitution and bylaws; and a necrology of deceased members. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines.
