London: T. N. Longman, 1797. Disbound. Good binding. Octavo. [2],80 pp. Second Edition. Removed from nonce volume and at some point backed in paper. A solid copy; rubber stamped number on the title page as well as a manuscript subject demarcation in heavy pencil with attempts at erasure; light foxing throughout. Gifford was a "tory political writer . . . . By the age of twenty-three, with his fortune spent, he found it expedient to retire to France in 1781 or 1872, and to change his name to Gifford" (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography). He became a prolific writer and editor of magazines. ESTC T140218.
