Previous owner's inscriptions to title page. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Heavy bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Boards are slightly bowed and tanned.

London & Edinburgh: W. & R. Chambers, Limited, 1910. John Arthur Barry (1850-1911), born in England, went to sea as a youth and spent most of his time in Australian waters. Afterwards he had a career as a journalist. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition, an elusive title indeed, particularly in such nice condition. Spectacular blue decorative cloth binding featuring a sailing ship on the water at sunset in black, purple, and gilt. The spine has titling in gilt, along with a storm-tossed ship. Clean text; 300 pages. Coloured frontis illustration and seven others within by Charles Pears. Light fade to the spine; mild rub to the margins; previous-owner signature on the verso of the frontis. A nice copy, and a great example of beautiful Edwardian design. In an archival plastic protector.. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. Illus. by Clarles Pears. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
