Scrambled Eggs by Mackall, Lawton - 1920

Cincinnati: Stewart & Kidd Company, 1920. Scarce 1920 First Edition. VERY GOOD hardcover complete with 5 black & white illustration plates by Oliver Herford. INSCRIBED on front free endpaper in black ink by the author "For Carl Van Doren - incorruptible critic! Lawton Mackall. Apr. 13, 1920". Van Doren was an author as well as a critic. He was awarded the 1939 Pulitzer Prize for his biography "Benjamin Franklin." A clean copy with no other markings; text pages crisp and fresh. Covered in dark green paper over boards with black lettering and with a color pastedown of artwork by cartoonist Don Herold on front. The cover is clean; lightly shelf-worn with rubbing along edges, some scuffing to paper along spine folds, short tears at base of spine. The pastedown rubbed but bright and attractive. Binding a bit loose but intact; hinges intact, no splits or loose pages. No jacket (most likely a jacket was not issued). 5-1/4 x 7-1/2". 64 pages. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover.
