Hardcover bound in 19th century brown quarter leather with brown publisher's cloth over boards. The binding is rubbed and bumped but sound. There is a small dent on the fore edge of the front cover. Hinges are a little rubbed but are sturdy. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Private owner's small square bookplate on the front pastedown has an interlocking "C.H.W." The motto around the edges is, "Fortitier Molire Confidenter Opperire." (Translation from the Latin is "Strive Strongly to Wait Confidently"). Text is toned but is generally clean. Contains two fold-out engravings and three foldout tables as well as 9 examples of printed title pages from different works. Text in French. Intended as a printer's manual, this wasthe "first great European manual to give us a complete and detailed introduction to the operations of the printing press." (G. Barber). A decent copy. Rare.
