About This Item

: Published and Sold by Judd & Detweiler First thus edition. Original wraps bound in cloth backed gray boards with small ticket rear pastedown: "Gaylord Bros. Makers Syracuse, N.Y. PAT. Mar 21, 1908". 8vo (23cm). pp. 16. Very Good/Ex-Lib. Copy of William Brewster 1851-1919 ('Bequest of' on Harvard University bookplate, Library of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) stamped withdrawn with his signature on title). Several stamps and pen numbers to front cover which has interestingly toned facing Gaylord boards (but not facing the Harvard bookplate), internally near fine. Contents and delivery dates of the inaugural Numbers 1-8 of the Saturday Lectures Series starting March 11, 1882 (cover verso). Apparently there are more titles about the Saturday Lecture Series than there are actual examples, rendering this as a scarce offering. Professor Chickering is son of John White Chickering 1808-88 (clergyman, temperance advocate and member of the Potomac-side Naturalists Club). [LOC assigns this title to his father]. See Chickering Jr.s' biography and bibliography compiled by Carol Ann McCormick at the University of North Carolina Herbarium..
