DeShields was born just after the Civil War, he was in a unique place as a collector of Texas historical manuscripts, documents, photos and books, he became a noted author of Texas history including Cynthia Ann Parker, Border Wars, Tall Men With Long Rifles and this, his final book is an excellent history which contains much of the information he spent a life time accumulating on the state's vast history, not just political figures. He includes everyone thru W. Lee O'Daniel and describes each individuals personal and political characteristics and other interesting information. The footnotes are a source of useful information the author collected from his many decades of reading and study. See our last two photos on Gov. Peter H. Bell as an example. Rare to find signed by the author and in this nice condition.
