About This Item

New York: Doubleday & Co., 1946. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. The 19th of mid-20th century craftsman Mason's long-running spy-thriller series featuring Army Intelligence Major Hugh North, recalled from the European Theater at the end of WWII to search for a beautiful young woman, who, during recapture of Manila from the Japanese, escaped the city with a dossier containing the names of British and American citizens who had betrayed their countries to the enemy. Major North follows a very faint trail towards Saigon where he finds himself in a race with some of the traitors who are intent on destroying the dossier and the woman who has it in her possession. A small bookseller's sticker in the lower corner of the front end page, a touch of fading at the top of the spine, and some age-tanning of the text, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The fragile dustjacket, while 90% complete, has a long split or tear beginning at the bottom of the spine and running two-thirds of the way up the fold between the spine and the front panel. There is also an 'L'-shaped tear starting at the top of the spine and running 1 1/2" down the fold with the back panel. There is minor chipping and wear at the spine ends, corners and edges, with some soiling and discoloration. The jacket is not price-clipped and has been placed in a Brodart protector.
