Map endpaper, frontis portrait of Smokey in his F6F on the Yorktown, several other illustrations from photographs. Story based on his Diary and other sources. His exploits as a Navy pilot aboard the USS Yorktown were memorialized in the film, "The Fighting Lady". In his final attack against the Japanese fleet at Truk, he was shot down and lost at sea.
