About This Item
Stanford.: Stanford U.P.. 1990.. Trans. with intro. and notes by Roger R. Thompson. Black and white photographic illustrations, ix + 278pp, appendices, bibliography, character list, index, paperback. "In May 1930, Mao Zedong conducted an investigation and wrote a report on the people, economy, society, and history of the obscure rural county of Xunwu in South China. Long described as lost, the report was published in China for the first time in 1982, when it was used by Deng Xiaoping to bolster his claim to power by demonstrating that he was following Mao in "seeking truth from facts.""
