Map engraved by M. L. Smith has a moderate sized split along two folds (no significant loss of the map). A few small holes at fold intersections and light edge chipping on the extreme margins. Map is in fair condition.

Washington DC: United States, 1838. Map. Fair. Disbound wraps. 13 pages. Includes three large folding maps: Mississippi River Rapids; Rock Island Rapids; and St. Louis Harbour. Maps are in fair condition with numerous folds and some creases. Very light toning to the maps. The first map of the Mississippi rapids has an approximate 6" closed tear with no loss of content and a 6" tear with small chips along the folds. The second map of Rock Island has an approximate 4" tear on the edge (from unfolding) not affecting the main content. The third map has tiny tears at the folds. The maps are complete and for the most part clean. All three maps have very old cloth linen tape on the folded edges. Light toning to the text.

Large softcover, original government publication in original wraps. Exterior shows edge and spine issues which includes chipping and tearing. Front cover has a dark spot along the bottom and the original owners name written in pencil along the top edge. Internal binding is good and text pages are secure. Paper is toned due to age and some minor spotting and foxing is present. No other handwriting noted other than the name written on the front cover. No bookplates, no underlining no library markings. The last text page has some tearing in the gutter which was caused by a bit of binder glue. An extremely rare publication which also covers the Brownsville affray and was released by the 59th Congress, second session. Title page states document number 155.
