About This Item
Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1957. Hardcover. 8vo. Blue cloth, pictorial dust jacket. vii, 246pp. Illustrations, map endpapers. Very good/very good. Slightest bit of faint jacket wear, with slightly sunned spine. Tight and sharp first edition -- with a decorative-edged archival bookplate signed boldly by Merrill in black ballpoint on the half-title page. Uncommon s such a handsome jacket. Thomas Wells critiques this as "Rather breezy, and often revisionist without the support of new evidence." NEVINS I, 229.
