About This Item
Broome: Magabala Books, 1988. Paperback large wide octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), colour & black & white photos, maps, single-colour illustrated endpapers, minor edgewear jacket (faint foxing reverse side), minor edgewear cover edges, light foxing some pages, some foxing inside covers. 288 pp. Full title: 'Raparapa: Stories from the Fitzroy River Drovers'. The nine Aboriginal men who have contributed to this book come from different language tribes and different parts of the Fitzroy / West Kimberley region in far north Western Australia, but share a common background. They speak for whole generations of Aboriginal drovers who have endured injustices. Paul Marshall agreed to edit this book after a suggestion by John Watson in 1985. The nine men all had the final say on the content of his story. This book is an important contribution to Aboriginal culture. Note: The Aboriginal words used in this book are from several different languages. When the established English spelling is known, this has been used. All other words are spelt using the South Kimberley Language Orthography by Joyce Hudson and William McGregor.
