About This Item
Menlo Park: Layman's Press, 1963. First edition. Written in response to events of the time and to Dr. Martin Luther King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail," Merton's essay (pp.4-23) formed the basis for his SEEDS OF DESTRUCTION (1964). It is a clarion call to White people urging radical change to combat White racism, both institutional and individual. Also includes a dialogue on racism between Father Thompson (pictured on the cover) and Griffin (author of BLACK LIKE ME) in which Thompson discusses his views and his experiences as a Black Catholic priest; "Journal of a Trip South" by Griffin, "Faulkner on Race," by Bradford Daniel; "The Marginal Man" by Williams; poetry by Nancy Sullivan and Brother Antoninus ("The Poet Is Dead," written upon the death of Robinson Jeffers); and more. 8.5 x 11" orange, black and white paperwraps. Illustrated with drawings and photographs. 96 pages. Fine.
