First Edition, First Printing. Signed by the author on the title-page. The author's award winning first novel follows the exploits and moral degeneration of four young New Englanders. Near fine copy in 1/4 green over black cloth, with slight wear to the head and tail of spine, a bit of toning to the inner boards, and small date stamp on yellow top stain. In a fine and lovely pictorial dust jacket, one of the best we've seen. Tall octavo. 306 pp. Overall, an excellent copy of Matthiessen's debut work.
