About This Item

New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc, 1985. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated]. Hardcover. Good/Good. 415, [1] pages. Data and Sources. Index. Front board has some weakness. DJ has some wear, tears, chips and soiling. James F. Dunnigan (born 8 August 1943) is an author, military-political analyst, Defense and State Department consultant, and wargame designer currently living in New York City. While still in college, he became involved in wargaming. He designed Jutland, which Avalon Hill published in 1967, following it up with 1914 the next year, and PanzerBlitz in 1970, which eventually sold more than 300,000 copies. Meanwhile, Dunnigan had founded his own company, initially known as Poultron Press, and which soon became Simulations Publications Inc. (SPI). Dunnigan created SPI in order to save the magazine Strategy & Tactics. Dunnigan regularly lectures at military and academic institutions, such as the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, in Newport, Rhode Island. Dunnigan and Bay present an enormous amount of information in a series of concise, insightful briefings coupled with their shrewd projections of potential outcomes, making A Quick and Dirty Guide to War a thought-provoking reference on the face of war in the 21st century. A thought-provoking analysis of the nature of war focuses on twelve representative armed conflicts to expose the myths, ideologies, and rationales of war and to reveal their historic and geopolitical sources, strategies, issues, and goals.
