Heavy tanning and rub-marking to pastedowns and endpapers with inscriptions and stamp to front. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Light bumping to corners and heavy crushing to spine ends, causing cloth to fray. Heavy tanning overall.

Visible split to bottom of contents page and top of frontispiece, pages remain attached. Pages are moderately tanned with visible foxing. Mild cracking to gutters, binding is slightly shaky, however pages remain attached. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Visible crushing to spine. Gilt lettering has darkened. Noticeable white staining. Book has a slight forward lean. Minor splits causing fraying to cloth at spine ends.

Moderate tanning to pages with heavier foxing and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Front endpaper is missing and frontis is detached but present. Heavy foxing and tanning to text block edges and both hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Binding is also loose. Boards have visible tanning and rubbing with moderate bumping to corners. Fair crushing to spine ends and heavy tanning to spine as well.

Tanning to spine and edges. Gilt lettering is darkened. Book has a slight forward lean.

London: George Routledge and Sons. Hardback. Fair+. Green boards with gilt lettering. Boards are scuffed and a little faded, especially at spine. Hinges are cracked and very fragile but text block still remains tight bar first and last few pages which are loose. Size: 8 x 5 Inches

Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning.

John Heywood Manchester undated c 1896 G (no dj, very colourful attractive dark blue cloth boards with bright floral/gilt decoration spine and front board, gilt title panel spine and ornate floral decorations in yellow/red/pale blue, similar title panel and flowers on front board with gilt edges to flower petals, unfortunately there is a heavy damp stain 1" wide down the fore-edge of back board, corners lightly bumped, a heavy volume and front and back hinges beginning to crack but textblock binding remaining firm, all page edges gilt, Sunday School prize plate front fixed endpaper dated 1896,pages clean and bright with occasional scattered light foxing) octavo 642pp. Unusual to find a copy of this very scarce edition by this publisher. B/w frontis and illustrations unattributed but signed ?Chris Hammond.
