Large 8vo, publisher's original sienna cloth lettered in gilt on spines. viii, 777, index; v, 1131 pp. Both volumes are in pleasing condition, the cloth of the PLAYS volume with a bit of light rubbing to the tips of the spine panel. FIRST EDITION OF EACH VOLUME. PREFACES provides access to Shaw's best writings in the fields of sociology, politics, religion and biography. Important and long respected works such as Man and Superman, Imprisonment, The Apple Cart, Androcles and the Lion, Saint Joan, The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God, Autobiography of a Supertramp, The Sanity of Art, Plays Pleasant and Plays Unpleasant along with many other writings are provided here. Shaw looked to the future and future generations to make life better for all people. He had all but given up on his own generation, its politicians, its respectables and its reverands.
