New York: Socialist Workers Party, 1977. Newsletter. About 360 often multi-page documents including: minutes of Political Committee, Political Bureau, Young Socialist Alliance National Executive Committee minutes, and attached reports. Mostly 8.5x11 inches. A six-inch-high stack of documents with an average of 60 items per inch yielding approx. 360 distinct documents in this collection organized by month. These documents are from the leading body of the Socialist Workers Party. Included are minutes and reports from the larger National Committee, which would meet 2 to 4 times a year, as well as the internal minutes from the SWP's youth group, the Young Socialist Alliance. Documents from the Fourth International, the international current that the SWP was in solidarity with, are often included. Much of the collection is National Office correspondence to the branches of the SWP and the various national campaigns the SWP was engaged with on a day-to-day basis. Though an incomplete collection the documents focus on the start of "The Turn to Industry", organizing of as many SWP members into various industrial unions. There is some discussion on the expansion of SWP membership as this is the high point of the membership since the McCarthy period. Part of this is the expansion of branches approved by the Political Committee into new cities. These documents are from the archives of former Political Committee member Nelson Blackstock.
