London: T. Cadell, And W. Davies, 1813 . Leather. Good. 8.5" by 5". None. The seventh edition of this collection of poetical works and reliques of Robert Burns. In a uniform full calf binding, with a marbled fore edge. Volumes I to IV are the seventh edition of the work. Volume five is the second edition of the work. All works were published in 1813. The first editions of volumes I to IV were published in 1804, while volume V was first published in 1808. This collection consists of a great selection of poetry by Robert Burns, as well as his general correspondence. Volume I covers 'The Life of Robert Burns, with a Criticism on his Writings'. This volume is dedicated to Captain Graham Moore, who was a big admirer of Burns and recommended him to J. Currie, who introduced the collection. Volume II consists of 'General Correspondence', with Burns' letters to people such as John Murdoch and the Earl of Glencairn. Also included are some pieces of miscellaneous poetry. Volume III is entitled 'Poems formerly published, with some additions'. Also included in this volume is a history of the poems, depicted by Gilbert Burns, who was the youngest brother of Robert. Volume IV is comprised of additional poems, as well as comprehensive correspondence between Robert Burns and Mr. George Thomson, a scottish music publishers and great friend of Burns. Volume V is a slightly different work, added later to include 'Reliques of Robert Burns; consisting chiefly of Original Letter, Poems and Critical Observations of Scottish Songs'. This volume was collected by editor and engraver, R. H. Cromek and is comprised of many more letters, poems and songs. Notably, Cromek included correspondence between Burns and his father, William Burnes.With a frontispiece of Robert Burns to volume I. With a bookplate of W. Burnett to the front paste down of volume I.Ink inscription of General Burnell dated 1819 to volume I, with just the date and part of the name visible to volume II. In a uniform full calf binding, with a marbled fore edge. Externally, sound with slight rubbing, particularly to the spine and hinges. Slight chipping of the leather to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges slightly strained but firm, weaker to volume IV and V and starting to the head of volume IV. Occasional marks to boards. Bookplate to the front paste down of volume I. Age toning and the odd mark to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot and slight age toning. Ink inscription dated 1819 to title page of volume I and II. Good
