"Dr Akenside was a man of religion, and strict virtue; a philosopher, a scholar and a fine poet "(from his biography). He rose to the level of one of her Majesty's physicians. He died at the age of 49, leaving a legacy of poetry not to be overlooked!
The table of contents includes: Life of Mark Akenside, The Pleasures of the Imagination as first published, The Pleasures of Imagination on an enlarged plan, Odes on several subject book one and book two, Inscriptions, and The Virtuoso.
Condition: A beautiful hardcover 1811/1814 leather edition of Akenside's poems awaits! Clean interior text block, original hand stitched headbands and the re-applied original spine piece. Inscription from Liverpool photographed is from 1814. Marbled page edges still present.
