With a halftone frontispiece portrait of the author. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt motif to upper board and gilt titles to spine. Boards blind-ruled. Contains a loose letter and postcard. Lightly toned and infrequently marked/spotted. Previous ownership inscription to flyleaf, dated 1921-1925. Minor sunning to spine, gentle thumbing of cloth. General edgewear. Very good. Included is a letter (dated 14/10/19) from the Imperial Ex-Services Association thanking a volunteer ex-officer during the September-October 1919 rail strike; the recipient had looked after the railway horses during the nine day strike. The IXA was a non-political group composed of ex-officers whose aim was to lend aid to veterans after WWI, and to support the government in times of national emergency. Also included is a postcard from the Blue Cross Fund, at the time a working-horse welfare charity, thanking the same recipient for taking care of the rail horses.
