About This Item
New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers, 1975. First Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. An American painter, sculptor and printmaker particularly active during the Depression and the WWII era, Evergood 's slightly cartoonish, colorful work has been described as social realism, imaginative realism, surrealism, even sophisticated primativism. This book, published only a few years after his death in a house fire in 1972, provides a good critical analysis by John Baur and a generous sampling of Evergood's work over his career. First Printing, First Edition. 11 x 11.5 inches, 215 pages in blue cloth boards with 151 illustrations, including 51 full color plates, as well as an index, a selected bibliography and a chronology. The boards show a bit of fading at the spine ends and edges. The top edge of the text shows light foxing while the bottom edge has collected three remainder marks, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The dustjacket has done its job over the years and shows considerable wear and tear, including a large chip and tear at the top of the spine and numerous surface scratches and creases. A sturdy, still useful reading/study copy. [Sorry, due to the book's size and weight, we cannot accept expedited orders or orders outside the U.S.]
