An incredibly rare and impressive Elzevier printing of Joannes de Laet's "Persia", written to aid in his direction of the Dutch West Indian Company. This work was one of the best books describing Middle Eastern, and Arab, and Islamic history. Laet covers all expected topics of Persian history – topography, geography, religious customs, government and politics, etc. It also includes 17th-century descriptions of Middle Eastern cities such as Baghdad, Damascus, and Mecca. This 1633 first edition includes eight full-page engravings of Persian dress.
