About This Item
1941. (WHIPPLE, A. W.). FOREMAN, Grant (ed.). A Pathfinder in the Southwest: The Itinerary of Lieutenant A. W. Whipple During his Explorations for a Railway Route from Fort Smith to Los Angeles in the Years 1853 & 1854. Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, 1941. 1st ed. 8vo. xv, [1], 298 pp., frontis., plates, map. In orig. cloth with non-priceclipped d/j. A bright, copy in near fine condition. Dust jacket with minor edgewear is in very good or better condition. This copy is warmly inscribed by Foreman to his wife Carolyn, to whom the volume is dedicated. A very nice association copy. Carolyn Foreman was an historian of note and one would imagine a contributor to Foreman's work. The tenor of the inscription suggests this: "This, our latest books, is inscribed to you Carolyn with renewed gratitude for never failing encouragement, cooperation and infinite patience and labor with which you have aided in the production of my book and made my books more effective. Grant.
