1862 Partially printed Civil War-date letter signed by John J. Cisco, Assistant Treasurer of the United States, under Salmon P. Chase. One page, headlined "Office of the Assistant Treasurer, U.S." and datelined "New York, January 2nd, 1862." Cisco informs his correspondent that a draft for $20,000 was received from Capt. R. Saxton and that amount "has been placed to the credit of your disbursing account." The letter is addressed to Captain Herbert A. Hascall, Assistant Quartermaster at Hilton Head, South Carolina. Hascall served during the Civil War from 1861 to 1863. He was Acting Asst. Adjutant-General of Keyes' Brigade in the Manassas Campaign of July, 1861, being engaged in the Battle of Bull Run, July 21, 1861; in command of Battery in the Defenses of Washington, D. C., July-Aug., 1861, and in Guarding the Upper Potomac, Aug.-Sep.1861; on leave of absence, Sep.-Oct., 1861; on Quartermaster duty at New York city, Oct. 4-11, 1861, and at Hilton Head, S. C., Nov. 10, 1861, to Feb. 24, 1862.. Signed by Author(s). Soft cover. Near Fine/No Jacket.
