Edges: age greying, light rubbed wear and soiling. Front & rear hinges with a little insect damage. Eight engraved plates including folding map by Lizars. According to the DNB this paper by Thomas Dick Lauder (1784-1848) was the first that drew the world's attention to the extraordinary parallel roads of Glen Roy. In this paper, he conclusively proves that they were a natural feature, ' the result probably of the action of a lake'. The splendid engravings and map were engraved on copper by William Miller after the authors own drawings
