Topeka, KS, 1901. First Edition. 627pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Tan cloth with the title gilt stamped on the front board and backstrip. Pictorial stamping to front board and backstrip. Near fine. 'Map Showing Lines of the Great Overland Stage Route, The Santa Fe Trail, Butterfield Overland Dispatch, Mormon Route of 1847, and the Leavenworth & Pike's Peak Express' [23 cm x 56 cm] present at the rear and in nice condition. One of the most valuable narratives of the overland stage. As the agent of the postal department, Root oversaw the transportation of the mail over the great stage line.
