London: Ingram, Cooke, and Co., 1852., 1852.. Fair. - Octavo, 9-1/8 inches high by 5-3/4 inches wide. Rust brown cloth titled with a gilt vignette on the front cover. The rubbed and bumped covers are detached and the spine is lacking. 390 pages, illustrated with an extra engraved pictorial title page, a full-page frontispiece, 7 full-page plates and 30 textual vignettes. The first signature consisting of the frontispiece, engraved title and title page is detached but present. There is occasional foxing and soiling. Else, a complete copy which would be well-worth rebacking.

First edition.

An early study of the building of the British railways issued during the period of the railroad boom. The book is authored by the Congregational minister and railway historian Frederick S. Williams.
