Companion volume to The Ascent of Everest, also authored by Sir John Hunt (1910 - 1998), leader of the 1953 British Expedition to Mount Everest --- the mountaineering feat that would see the summit scaled by Sir Edmund Hillary (then aged 33) of New Zealand and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay (age 39) of Nepal on May 29th, 1953, putting to rest 32 years of failed attempts by many a challenged climber. A chronicle with accompanying photographic essay. Includes biographical sketches of party members. Sir John's brief description of Sir Hillary reads, "Shipton prophesied he would be a strong contender for an Everest summit party. Lanky build, abounding in enery."; and of Tenzing Norgay (Bhotia Tenzing Norkey), "... a mountaineer of world standing. A Sirdar of unequalled authority with Sherpas." A chronicle of a historic event.
