Japan: Tanaka, 1889. Original woodblock printed book by Kono Bairei. 25 illustrations printed in two or three colours. Bound concertina style, silk spine ends worn, paper covers and cord ties very good, with a little creasing to boards. Contents clean and tight, title page and list of contents in Japanese and English text. Each woodblock has a black boarder, number and title, back to back plates, fore-edge writing, unmarked, no inscriptions. A very good copy of this rare work by Bairei. NOTES [Kono Bairei was a Japanese painter, book illustrator, and art teacher. He was born and lived in Kyoto.
