Amstelaedami: Jacobi Wetstenii, 1746. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to. VOL. II ONLY. Full vellum with decorative device in blind to upper front and rear board, original spine laid-down with new leather labels, 706pp. Illustrated with engraved folding map of Greece, plus 5 engraved headpieces. Half title, with title page printed in red and black, light foxing, with bookplate of Robert Gladstone. Boards a bit worn at corners, covers a bit faded but in fact a very good copy. An ancient Roman poet, Publius Verilius Maro (70BC-19BC) or Virgil, was active during the Augustan period. Book II contains selections from the Aeniead, one of his most famous and celebrated of his works.
