About This Item
New York: Harper & Row, 1967. 8vo size hardcover with dust jacket; 213 deckle edge pages From jacket: "This is the summer when Harriet Brown is 19, and this is the journal she keeps... She has never been so far north of her native South Carolina before, yet here she is, doing sociology research in that most Yankee of all Northern states, Vermont. Harriet is, incidentally, a Negro, but the reader is advised not to let this detail put him off. Harriet is uniquely herself, witty, warm, sensitive, caustic-tongued, rebellious and proud... She has been hired on as mother's helper... The family is living in two houses...both overflowing with children. This is essentially an old-fashioned novel, because it is nourishing... It is spiced with wit and laced with vitality- everybody in it is glad to be alive... This is a book to read aloud, to lend to friends, to reread, and to treasure." Jacket has wear and light soil and is a bit tattered with at least six small tears to top and bottom edges, There is an inch long tear and minor chipping to top of jacket spine. There are several large creases to back of jacket and some evidence of water damage to back of jacket with some red dye transfer from the red cloth spine. (There is no other evidence of water damage.) Edgewear, lightly worn corners and bumped head and heel of spine, one creased page corner. Thanks for shopping with us. 100% of your purchase benefits charity and supports literacy and life-long learning.. First. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
