About This Item

New York: Macmillan Company, 1958. first US edition. hardcover. Book VG: mild shelf wear to boards and spine, toning/offset to endpapers, text clean, binding tight./DJ G: age toning, spine sunned, clipped. 8vo 310pp. from front flap: "Friar Felix Fabri, a Dominican brother from Ulm, Germany, left his quiet priory on two occasions to visit the Holy Land. FRIAR FELIX AT LARGE, published in 1940, followed his journey to Jerusalem in 1480. ONCE TO SINAI chronicles the homeward journey of Friar Felix's second trip. The year is 1483, but the gulf of nearly half a millenium is bridged by the forthright immediacy of Miss Prescott's portrait of her hero. Though devout, the ebullient Friar was roughly nine parts tourist to one part pilgrim: observant, curious and experimental, he was endlessly delighted by the novelty of strange food, strange drink, strange sensations and strange experiences." #01695.
