About This Item
Benton Harbor, Michigan: Antiquarian Publishing Company, 1911. First Edition. First Edition. Signed presentation from the author's mother on the front blank page: "To Dr. J.C. McCombe & wife, from Mother of Author, Mrs. H.A. Ludlow." The author [1885-1907] died only two weeks after he finished this novel so his mother, H.A. Ludlow, had it copyrighted and published in 1911. The author sets the early struggles of white settlers in Michigan. Hard to imagine a better copy of this uncommon title!. Small 8vo., red cloth, stamped in gilt; 311 pages. Illustrated by Irene Mull-Marquardt. Very Good (covers nice & bright with minor darkening spine; contents clean & tight with very tiny spot pages 5-8 and tiny crease & very small tear -now repaired with clear, archival tape- to pages 299-302). A scarce title!
