Carey describes it as amplified, methodised and improved over the first edition. The book appeared during a "convulsed period of history" as an effort to create unity between the two American parties against the British during the War of 1812. Bound in original paper boards, badly browned and faded, with spine missing. Front and rear boards loose but holding. Some signatures are cracked but the text block is holding firm. Pages are browned and foxed throughout but legible and readable. Dampstaining to rear end pages. A decent copy of this important historical work. 336 pages. AMHIST/033010.

Philadelphia: M. Carey, 1815. Second Edition. Leather. 336p. A hardcover book in POOR condition. The leather spine is splitting along the edges, leaving the paper-covered boards loosely attached. The edges of the boards are scuffed and chipped, exposing the underlying cardboard. Stains and scuffs on the front board obscure much of the title. The first blank endpaper is detached and clipped at the top. The pages are foxed throughout and a bit age-toned, but otherwise, text unmarked. A badly worn but readable copy that ought to be handled with care. An appeal for political unity in America during the War of 1812.

Soundly bound in original quarter black leather backed spine, and title printed, drab paper covered boards. Title and horizontal rules in gilt to spine. Lettering to the paper covered board is very much dimmed and rubbed away but legible in large on close inspection. Paper over boards rubbed and chipped at edges; leather at spine soft at base of spine and a little stressed. It appears that some professional attention may have been given to stabilize the paper over boards. Expected general light toning and spotting to page stock and with a light damp line along the bottom edge of the first and last 10 or so leaves.
