Missing DJ if issued, boards badly stained and marked with corners bumped and rubbed, spine gilding faded, gutter cracked at title, cryptic message to front endpaper "Done that job to Hunts for Anne @ E Salts" which seems contemporary and nothing to do with e-mail. ; First printing of pocket edition, 1930. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine embossed Cassell Archer to front board. Reading copy only. ; Cassell's Pocket Library; 384 pages; Old Pybus was a London bookshop proprietor who became estranged from his sons when they refused to enlist during World War I. Many years later, now a hotelier, he meets a young book-lover who stops by his inn. Unbeknownst to him, it is his grandson... .
