Ist edition of 2nd printing. 1st edition,1st printing was in 1936. 234 pages with 12 illustration and 2maps. William Sherly ( Old Bill ) born during the American revolution was a child of the early frontier. He became a missionary to the Osage Indians and married an Osage girl. He was a master trapper and guide. He was a guide for the Sibley survey of the Santa Fe trail in 1865 and some years later was a guide for two Fremont expeditions. Old Bill along with Bridger, Carson, Meek, Glass and Fitzpatrick are the well known mountain men.
