Text in French. vii, 199pp, three folding engraved plates showing various geological layers in cross-sections of the Vosges Mountains region of France. Rebound in red library reinforced cloth with gilt title and "A. A. R." stamped at base of spine. "Systeme d'echange international, A. V." stamped on title page. (research Alexandre Vatemare to learn more about the French ventriloquist's system of international book dispersals). Beaumont (French for "beautiful mountain") was a significant figure in the history of geology, renowned for his theories about the forces behind the creation of mountain ranges. This is one of his earlier works. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
