About This Item

Stirling: Eneas Mackay, 1907. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". Walter Bain. A smart new edition of Cunninghame Graham's popular work on this splendid part of Scotland, illustrated with line drawings throughout. Describing the beauty of the area, its history, atavism and traditions.Written by R. B. Cunninghame Graham, a Scottish writer, politician and adventurer. A co-founder and the first president of the Scottish Labour Party, he was also a prolific writer, this being his debut work.First published in 1895, this is a new edition of March, 1907. So fond was the author of Menteith that he was laid to rest there, in the ruined Augustinian Priory on Inchmahome.Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece and pen and ink drawings throughout by Walter Bain. With a gift inscription to the front endpaper in pencil reading, 'To Mrs Campbell, souvenir of 9 Sept 1916'. Containing an ownership bookplate reading 'Blanefield'.With blind stamping to the front board.A wonderful description of Menteith by an important writer. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown; pencil inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, with a small strain after the front endpaper to the front hinge, which remains firm. Pages are uncut, and bright and clean with just a little spotting to the first and final leaves. Very Good
